Galatians 3:1-5
BIBLE - PASSAGE
[Please read the passage before (or after) reading the devotion.]

Nothing (good) can come about by abandoning our faith and choosing to revert to a ritualistic lifestyle of mind-less and heart-less activity because that is what is expected of us. Why try to undo the extraordinarily wonderful saving work that God has done in our lives through Jesus’ work of grace? There is absolutely no gain or advantage in trying to go back to doing things in our own strength in order to please God. It was God, through his Son Jesus, who redeemed us; then it was God, through his Holy Spirit, who worked that forgiveness into our lives so we could experience real freedom and joy. But that isn’t all; God continues, through his Holy Spirit living in us, to enable us to be and do more than we imagined. All that we have to do is believe and stay connected by obeying his Word.
How can you resist the temptation of focusing on rules and traditions, because they are familiar to your old way of living? How can you keep depending on the Holy Spirit to work through you, rather than working in your own strength?

Prayer: It is so easy, Lord, to forget that it was all you who worked my salvation; there was nothing of me involved except my trust. I frequently take back control of my life because of my old habit of self-dependence, or I just lose faith in your Holy Spirit working through me. Forgive me, Jesus, for my irrational faith-life. However good rules are for discipline, they don’t work miracles. And I want you to use me as a channel for those miracles to touch a needy world around me. Amen.
