Galatians 6:14

[Please read the passage before (or after) reading the devotion.]
“Because I believe Jesus died for me on the cross, the world is dead to me, and I am dead to the world – death as sacrificial, complete and visual as Jesus’ crucifixion.” Paul has already directly linked his Christ-following life to Jesus’ death on the cross twice (Galatians 2:20; 5:24). It wasn’t just his central reality, but it was something he publicly and repeatedly spoke (“boast”) about. The Cross of Christ was like the hinge on which a door (his life) moved. Your world needs to be seen through the lens of redemption – Jesus’ sacrificial death to “buy” its deliverance. Similarly, your life needs to be seen through that same lens of redemption. Maybe then you’ll be able to see the Kingdom possibilities of both your life and the world in the light of the Resurrection!
What is the central “boast” of your life – all the good that you have achieved (with or without Jesus), or the new creation that you are becoming because of Jesus’ sacrificial death (see Luke 10:20)? Do you see your life and the world through the eyes of fear, or through the eyes of hope?
Prayer: Loving Lord Jesus, your death meant everything to Paul – it was the hinge that his life moved on. Why is it not so in my life? I too want to constantly live my life in the light of your sacrificial death for me, with gratitude, hope, and faith. But I also want to see the world as you see it: “God so loved the world that he gave you, Jesus…” (John 3:16). Please take away the fear and anger I have against the world (and myself) and replace them with your love and hope. Yes, because of sin and brokenness, the world and I as well are dead or dying. But you are doing your Resurrection work in my life, and the life of the world. Hallelujah! Thank you, Jesus! Amen.
