Galatians 2:3-5
BIBLE PASSAGE - CLICK HERE

“The truth of the gospel” is that it is God who did all that was needed to redeem us humans from our brokenness and sin, and our alienation from him because of it. Jesus gave his life for our forgiveness and freedom (see Romans 5:8). No deed of ours would have made that possible – neither good works, nor established rituals and traditions (like circumcision). It is God’s plan, his initiation, his accomplishment from beginning to end; all we do is believe, receive, and experience it. This is something the early church set out to protect against “grace-robbers,” and we should too.

How can we prevent ourselves from becoming “grace-robbers”? How can you, as a Christ follower, encourage a new/young Christian in their faith to grow in grace, depending only on Jesus, and not in rituals (however important they may be to you)?

Prayer: Gracious God, I am so grateful that the truth of the gospel is that you “demonstrated your own love for us in this: while we were still sinners, Christ died for us.” You did all that was needed for me to experience your Life and Freedom; all you ever required was that I receive your grace in faith. Thank you for giving me that experience. And yet, there are times when, when it comes to others, I forget this. I make it a requirement that they follow rules (rules I personally think are important) in order for them to experience you. Forgive me, Lord, for taking the focus off you and what you have done. I don’t ever want others or myself to become slaves once again: we are your precious sons and daughters! Amen.
