July 9, 2020

Dear DUMC Friends and Family,
The Moving Forward Committee has been prayerfully and thoughtfully planning for many weeks for our return to in-person worship. We want to create a space where those who are comfortable coming together can do so safely, while also respecting the decisions of those who are not comfortable. We all look forward to a time when we can all worship together again.

Until that time, I ask you to consider Philippians 2: 1-4, “Therefore, if you have any encouragement from being united with Christ, if any comfort from his love, if any common sharing in the Spirit, if any tenderness and compassion, then make my joy complete by being like-minded, having the same love, being one in spirit and of one mind. Do nothing out of selfish ambition or vain conceit. Rather, in humility, value others above yourselves, not looking to your own interests, but each of you to the interests of the others.” We ask for your compassion, patience, and understanding as we move forward.

We are pleased to announce that we will be offering in-person worship, beginning on Sunday, July 26th. We will continue to offer a live-streamed service for those that are not comfortable worshiping in person yet. In order to accommodate physical distancing requirements, you will need to reserve your seating in advance for each of our three in-person worship services:

  • Contemporary Service at 9:00-9:30am in the Sanctuary
  • Liturgical Service at 10:30-11:00am in the Sanctuary
(will be recorded for online viewing, hopefully by mid-August)

  • 11:11 Word & Worship at 11:11-12:50am in the new Worship Center
(will be live streamed for online viewing)

I understand there will be differing opinions over the decisions that we are making, or the guidelines we have created. However, your health concerns and worship needs are why these changes are being made. Below is a summary with the highlights of the guidelines for our return to worship. Please read over these guidelines as there is important information outlined. The Moving Forward Committee will continue to meet and update you as we receive new information or as circumstances change.

I would like to close by offering a personal thank you to all of our DUMC families and friends for honoring Jesus Christ through your continued giving, online viewership, and ongoing online ministry. Thank you for your continued prayers for our church. I look forward to the day when I can see each of you face-to-face, but until then, count on my prayers for you and your family.

Blessings,

Pastor Sunil
